Project June- Laundry Room
For June I choose to conquer the laundry room. In my home the laundry room has a big effect on our family. We always need clean clothes for various functions or uniforms for sports. We have spent lots of wasted time looking for that particular shirt or trying to find some matching socks. I know all you moms out there know exactly where I am coming from. We have set up bedtime routines for our children which include getting clothes ready the night before. To help cut down on that last minute, “OMG mom I was suppose to wear yellow today!” I will never forget this embarrassing moment that incurred from skipping out on our bedtime list! I was in a hurry after work to get everyone together and get to the soccer fields before the game for pictures. As I passed by the laundry room I saw a red soccer jersey lying in the floor. I thought to myself “Oh my gosh, you mean I didn’t wash that from the last game? What am I going to do?” So in a panic I washed it on the quickest cycle. Those jerseys are made of material that dries very quickly. So through sheer embarrassment to my boys, I rolled the window up on the jersey and rode with it flapping in the breeze. My middle child that wouldn’t be caught dead without a shirt on in public, is now riding shirtless with a red jersey flapping in the breeze. We pull in the parking lot and much to my surprise we are on time. We have made it, whew what a close one! BUT WAIT. I am scanning the soccer field for his other teammates. Red jerseys…where is the team with the red jerseys? I finally see them but they are all in black jerseys!!! Yes we have been in black jerseys all soccer season, but yet here I am with my son in a RED jersey!! Have I lost my mind? What was I thinking! I was SO embarrassed. I drove back home and got the correct jersey so he could play and we just skipped out on the pictures. Oh, and you might be wondering where the red jersey came from. Well he likes to keep his old jerseys and wear them to play in. This is just one small example of time, energy, gas money, and embarrassment I could have saved myself and my boys.
Think about how much time you waste looking for clothes. How much money is wasted on clothes that aren’t washed or pretreated properly? How many times you or your family has said, “I have nothing to wear” when actually you probably just don’t have anything CLEAN to wear. Or often in my case it is clean but lost in Mount Washmore ( the pile of clean clothes I haven’t put away). How much energy is wasted rewashing a load of clothes because you left it in the washer to long? How much money is wasted because you keep turning on the dryer to fluff the clothes intending to fold them? So let’s conquer this battle, and spend time doing the things we love instead.
Dream about what you want your laundry room to look like. What do you envision? If you do not love it you will not want to be in it. I am looking forward to helping each other conquer our laundry room goals.
